2019 Chassagne-Montrachet, 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot, Domaine Tawse
Domaine Tawse. Abbaye de Morgeot is the historic, and best, plot within the much larger Morgeot vineyard. It surrounds the Abbaye, which was once home to an order of Cistercian monks who originally planted vines in the area. Typical production here is around four barrels, but sadly only one barrel has been made in 2019 due to frost. What has survived is mineral and vital, with an impressive concentration of stone fruit on the mid palate and a saline tinged finish. Snap this one up.

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Abbaye de Morgeot 1er Cru includes a 30-year-old and an 80-year-old parcel of vines. This was the only cuvée from Tawse taken from barrel instead of vat. It had a bit of reduction, and that will go with its imminent racking. The palate is well balanced with a lovely texture, quite plush and rounded, apricot and white peach leading to an almond, vanilla and praline finish. This will be very seductive once in bottle. Two barrels produced.
