Joanna Simon’s Wine of the Week: Jeroboams White Burgundy
· Ben Pearson Ben Pearson onWe are exceptionally pleased to have one of our own label wines featured as Wine of the Week by one of the most respected wine writers out there, Joanna Simon. Joanna has been writing about food and wine since the 1980s, featuring an impressive 22 year stint as the wine critic for The Sunday Times. She is hugely respected and knows what she’s doing, so if she says a wine is good, then it is most definitely good! For this week, Joanna has selected Jeroboams White Burgundy, about which she has the follow to say:
This is one of a handful of wines Jeroboams launched under its own label for the first time this year. It’s made in the Côte d’Or by the brothers Pascal and Laurent Borgeot of Domaine Borgeot in Remigny, a village of just four growers lying 4km south of Chassagne-Montrachet, and it’s altogether satisfying and authentic. It’s nutty and fresh on the nose, with notes of dried flowers and sweet almonds, and the palate is creamy and rounded with subtle lemon-peach fruit, freshly baked bread and toasted nut flavours and a backbone of fresh but soft acidity. You can drink it on its own, but it’s adaptable with food as long as you don’t knock it out with overly sharp vinaigrettes or strong spices. Think along the lines of risotto, roast chicken, pasta or chicken in a creamy lemon sauce, chicken and avocado salad, fish pie, shellfish or cold poached salmon with mayo.
