Lying even further north than Hampstead, Muswell Hill offers one of the most beautiful views of London. This leafy little village, along the road from Highgate Wood, is so named after a “Mossy Well” from which the Scottish King, Malcom IV, drank to cure a fated disease. Throughout medieval times Muswell Hill, often pronounced “Muzzle Hill” up until the 1950s, was a site of pilgrimage for healing. Now, however, people travel from all over London and further afield to visit this beautiful village, see Karl Marx’s grave in Highgate Cemetery, and attend concerts and darts championships at the nearby Alexandra Palace, built in 1873 to rival the grand steel and glass structure in Crystal Palace in South London. All that was missing was a Jeroboams, which we promptly resolved in 2018, when we purchased Prohibition Wines. Since then, Jeroboams have continued to grow the range of wines, spirits and craft beers, participating in community events and offer delivery to the local residents. The perfect shop to pop in for a taste of wine, or a growler of freshly poured craft beer.
