Chateau Leoville Poyferre

For years seen as the ‘lesser’ Léoville, this 80 hectare second growth has been in the Cuvelier family since 1920. Didier took the reins in 1979 and quality quickly began to rise. The style has tended to be quite voluptuous and accessible, although an increase in Cabernet plantings and grape selection, plus the use of more new oak has seen the wine become more structured over the past 20 years. Poyferré has steadily risen in price recently, but still remains good value for its quality levels.
