Fonseca

Fonseca Guimaraens, to give it its full name, was founded in 1815 as Fonseca & Monteiro before the Guimarens family purchased it in 1822. They remained owners until 1948 when it was purchased by Taylors, who elected to leave it as a separate entity which continued to be run by the family, with David Guimarens the current winemaker. The house has three main vineyards totalling 69 hectares, with Quinta do Panascal the heart of the vintage blend. Fonseca has consistently produced one of the top 2 or 3 vintage ports over the past 50 years and they are an opulent style with immense structure and great longevity.
