Klein Constantia

This 164 hectare estate is a part of the original Constantia estate established in 1685 by the first Governor of Cape Town and it is was from here that Constantia, perhaps the most sought after wine in the eighteenth century, came. After 2 centuries of success, including numerous mentions in great 19th century literature, phylloxera came to the Cape, the vineyards were decimated and the wine was not made after that for 100 years. In 1986 a project started to re-create this legendary Muscat using cuttings believed to come from the original vine stock and Vin de Constance was born. Alongside this, the estate also makes some fine, grassy and full Sauvignon Blancs, brisk and satisfying Chardonnay and bright juicy reds.
