Cooked cherries and warm cured tobacco leaf (still soft) but also a very tiny hint of farmyard. I like the acidity on this. It has point. Pomegranate. Exotic spices. Porcini mushrooms in cherry syrup. Draped in a swag of gleaming brocade tannins. A rich, dark, dressy Pinot – very Otago, very confident, forthright.

Vinous
This is all violets and strawberries on the palate. The fruit is rather obviously sweet, giving a richer impression than you’d expect from Gibbston, which may have something to do with the growing season. The acidity remains fresh but it fades all too quickly on the finish, where the warming effects of alcohol dominate.
