2020 Fire Gully Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, Margaret River, Western Australia

A leafy, delicate Cabernet Sauvignon, with very finely milled tannins and layers of red and purple fruit in the mouth. A cool mineral profile, and a gentle chalkiness on the middle palate highlight the fruit. Hints of coffee bean, mint and bay leaf add complex layers to this understated wine, which finishes with salinity and great elegance.

The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is lovely. It’s a leafy, chalky, delicate Cabernet Sauvignon, with very finely milled tannins and layers of red and purple fruit in the mouth. It’s hard to choose a favorite character of this wine (between the fruit and the tannins), however it is the tannins that bring it home for me in the end: the cool mineral outlay and the gently chalky grip through the middle palate highlights the fruit and makes this wine what it is. Superb.
