N.V. Joseph Perrier, Cuvee Royale Brut (Methuselah)

Decidedly refreshing and with great poise, helped by a minimum of 3 years ageing in their Roman chalk cellars in Châlons-en-Champagne.

Golden Delicious apples. Linear. Bright lemon acidity. Understated and neat. Ticks all the right boxes without being particularly exciting.

The latest release of Joseph Perrier’s NV Brut Cuvée Royale is showing well, revealing a generous bouquet of ripe apples, mandarin, warm biscuits and subtle hints of honeycomb. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, fleshy and rounded, with a generous core of fruit, ripe acids and a youthfully frothy mousse. It’s testimony to the progress made at Joseph Perrier in the last decade.
