Adelaide Hills
Just a short 20 minute drive from the city, Adelaide Hills is a relatively young wine region. Located in the greater South Australia region, to the west of Adelaide city and south of Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills comprises a very diverse range of microclimates owing to the steep hill and valleys of the Mount Lofty Ranges. It is one of Australia’s coolest and most elevated wine regions, with altitudes of anywhere between 149 and 714 meters. With a cool, dry summers and crisp winters—the majority of rain falling in winter and spring—this is ideal territory for white grape varieties. Some of Australia’s finest chardonnays have sprouted here, alongside surprisingly aromatic and elegant sauvignon blanc too. The region was devastated by bush fires in 2019, with up to a third of the vineyard area lost.
