Puglia
Puglia is very hot throughout summer and remains mild in the winter when most of the rainfall comes. The Salento Peninsular is cooled somewhat by the seas on either side of it, although this remains one of the warmest production regions in Europe. This is one of the few parts of Italy that is substantially flat with no mountains and is at most a gently undulating countryside. This is also one of the world centres of Olive production and there are many more Olive trees than vines to be seen. Puglia has 28 DOCs and 4 DOCGs although only a handful have significance outside of their immediate surroundings. Salice Salentino DOC, Primativo di Manduria DOC are the most recognisable sub-regions.
